WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for status updates, allowing users to share music alongside their photos and videos.

Currently available in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (2.25.2.5), this feature is designed to make status updates more dynamic and engaging, similar to Instagram’s music-sharing option for stories.

With this update, users will notice a music icon in the status update section. By selecting it, they can search for favorite songs, artists, or popular tracks.

Once a track is chosen, users can add a 15-second clip to a photo-based status or adjust the duration for video statuses, with the music length matching the video clip’s duration.

This feature is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user engagement and is the result of a collaboration between Meta and Universal Music Group.

The partnership enables users to access a music catalog and select tracks directly for their status updates. Following testing with Android and iOS beta users, the feature will soon be available to all users.

The integration of music into status updates offers a creative way for users to personalize their posts and set the tone for their photos or videos. Viewers can tap on the displayed song in a status to be directed to the artist’s Instagram profile.

This update builds upon recent improvements to WhatsApp’s status section, including an updated interface and new reaction options. More interactive tools are expected in future updates to further enhance the user experience.

Previously, WhatsApp introduced four new features aimed at improving messaging with friends and family. These updates included camera effects, selfie stickers, quicker reactions, and sticker pack sharing, making chats more engaging and fun.

In a blog post, WhatsApp revealed that users can now access 30 backgrounds, filters, and effects for photos and videos captured within chats. These tools allow users to creatively enhance their media, offering a more enjoyable messaging experience.
