WhatsApp introduces new in-app document scanning feature

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to scan documents directly within the app before sharing them.

Previously, users needed to either take photos of documents, use a dedicated scanning app, or rely on their phone’s built-in camera scanning feature to prepare documents for sharing. Now, WhatsApp provides a “Scan document” option, available when users choose to upload or select documents to send.

This feature is currently accessible to iOS users with WhatsApp version 24.25.89, as reported by WaBetaInfo.

While some users in India have already started using the feature, it has not yet been made available to all Android users or WhatsApp Business accounts.

The document scanning tool enhances the clarity and brightness of scanned images, ensuring text and signatures are more legible, addressing common issues of poor exposure or unclear details when using photographs.

In a related update, WhatsApp has also introduced a feature to manage chat message animations, including emojis, stickers, and GIFs.

According to WaBetaInfo, this feature allows users to disable autoplay for animated content, keeping emojis static and preventing animated stickers and GIFs from moving unless interacted with.

This update is intended for users who find excessive animations distracting. The feature is still under development and will be rolled out in future updates.

Additionally, WhatsApp is working on another enhancement that will let users access human chat support via the web client. This feature will provide real-time assistance from human representatives, moving away from reliance on automated systems.
