When will 5G technology launch in Pakistan?

The federal government has finalized the framework for the 5G technology spectrum auction. Official documents reveal that the Ministry of Information Technology has outlined a roadmap for the nationwide rollout of 5G, scheduled to launch in June 2025.

The auction process will consist of five phases, with the first phase set to commence next month. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will provide recommendations to the Spectrum Advisory Committee after consulting with experts.

During the second phase, the Advisory Committee will finalize policy reforms. By March 2025, it will establish the pricing structure for the 5G spectrum and define the commercial terms. In April, the federal government will approve the policy directive, and the PTA will conduct the spectrum auction in May 2025.

The PTA intends to auction four 5G spectrum bands—700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz—to facilitate the implementation of 5G technology nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has restored its internet services following the resolution of an issue with the AAEE-1 submarine cable that had caused widespread disruptions.

According to a PTCL spokesperson, the fault was resolved in record time, ensuring the restoration of normal internet speeds and smooth browsing for users. To minimize the impact during the repair process, PTCL added additional bandwidth.

As a result, services such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, hosted on Meta platforms, have resumed full functionality with seamless performance.

Both PTCL and PTA teams worked diligently to restore connectivity. PTCL expressed gratitude to its customers for their patience and cooperation during the disruption.
