On Friday, Mohsin Naqvi, the Federal Interior Minister, declared that identity card issuance and renewal services would be accessible at Pakistan’s Union Council (UC) level.
The minister made this announcement following a visit to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) headquarters, where he presided over a significant meeting that included an exchange of several ideas for improving NADRA’s user experience.
Nationwide union council levels will also have biometric machines installed.
Within a few days, Mohsin Naqvi gave the order to complete identity card issuance and renewal at the union council level. He also looked for a way to improve, streamline, and make the Identity Card system accurate.
He highlighted the need for an approach that would make it easier for guests to visit NADRA locations and ensure timely service every time.
The minister also requested a plan to expand NADRA centers in six major cities—Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi—within seven days in light of the lengthy lines of civilians. In addition, he ordered the mafia behind fake identity cards to take decisive action.
The minister was next informed on the digital monitoring mechanism of NADRA facilities across Pakistan during his visit to the NADRA operational room. He was thankful for the work that Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar, the Chairman of NADRA, and his group had done.
Senior NADRA officials as well as Secretary of Interior Khurram Ali Agha attended the ceremony.
