US stops funding the CDC in Pakistan

Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted on Sunday that Pakistan would be one of several nations that would be banned from receiving US funds under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

President Joe Biden and top congressional Republican Kevin McCarthy struck a tentative deal to raise the federal government’s $31.4 trillion debt ceiling just before Greene’s tweet was published.

CDC is the country’s public health organization. Protection of public health and safety is the primary objective of the agency, which is accomplished by avoiding and managing disease, injuries, and disabilities in the United States as well as abroad.

Greene stated, “Hearing the soon-to-be-finalized debt limit agreement from @SpeakerMcCarthy would claw back $400 million from the CDC Global Health Fund that sends money overseas to nations like China.
