Punjab Suddenly Cancels 16,000 Jobs for School Teachers

The provincial administration had canceled the expression of interest (EOI) for their employment, therefore the hiring of thousands of educators in public schools across Punjab is in doubt.

A statement from Punjab’s School Education Department (SED) dated January 12th, 2023 states that the EOI regarding the hiring of a management company to conduct interviews and administer tests to potential instructors has been canceled.

The EOI on the subject that was advertised on November 26, 2022, according to the notification from SED’s Section Officer (SO) Recruitment, has been canceled by the SED.

Due to the rise in educator positions, the SED has canceled the EOI under Rule 35 of the PPRA Rules 2014. In addition, SO Recruitment requested new submissions in response to future calls for proposals.

Thousands of positions for teachers were declared in all public sector schools run by the SED by the then-Punjab government, which was led by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), in June 2022.

According to Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan, a former minister of Education for Punjab, the province administration plans to hire more than 16,000 teachers. He stated that during the PML-prior N’s administration, which ran from 2013 to 2018, 230,000 educators were hired.
