The Blockbuster Film:

With $550 million in global ticket sales, “Avatar: The Way of Water” became the biggest film of all time at the box office. While the $35 million-budget movie is on track to break even and be profitable in theatres, it still has some way to go to achieve profitability. As a result of “Avatar 2” is already doing well at the box office following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019.

The film was just one of eight movies this year to cross the half-billion dollar mark worldwide in just five days. Moreover, tentpole is aiming to surpass $1 billion by the turn of the new year.

Avatar: The Way of Water added a strong $18.3 million to its domestic gross, and $40.5 million internationally on Tuesday. Currently, the film has generated $168.6 million domestically and $387.3 million internationally, bringing its total to $555.9 million.

“The Way of Water” won’t reach the heights of its predecessor, the highest-grossing movie in history, because of pandemic-related obstacles, especially at the international box office. Based on the original movie, released in 2009, the North American box office grossed $760 million and the global box office grossed $2.92 billion.

Big entertainment for Christmas Holiday:

There are many rewards associated with the holiday season, but it should also be rewarding. Over the upcoming weekend, “Avatar: The Way of Water” is expected to decline 40% to 50% from its $134 million debut, which would put ticket sales around $67 million to $80 million. Christmas day falls on Sunday, so big numbers are expected during the week leading up to the holiday. Despite the three major films opening on Friday – Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon,” Universal’s animated “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and Sony’s Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance With Someone” – none will dethrone “Avatar 2” at the domestic box office.
