Usman Khan’s selection in the Pakistan squad is highly likely, according to PCB supremo Mohsin Naqvi, and the player would be taken into consideration for the national team following his outstanding PSL 9 successes.
The PCB Chairman declared, “Usman Khan is eligible for Pakistan and he will play for the national side,” during a recent news conference in Lahore.
Usman Khan, an Emirati cricket player born in Karachi, was recently banned by the Emirates Cricket Board for violating his contract. This came about after he unexpectedly chose to play for Pakistan after hearing that he had been picked for the Kakul training camp before the New Zealand series.
The 28-year-old already had a strong desire to represent the United Arab Emirates in international cricket. Still, the cricket board invited him up for the training camp in Kakul after he performed in the PSL 9 campaign, scoring 430 runs in 7 innings, including two stunning hundreds.
According to Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB will formally announce the appointment of the foreign coaches on April 15, however, the Pakistan squad for the series against New Zealand will be announced on April 9.
In addition to hosting all matches for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan will also host South Africa and New Zealand in a tri-nation series after a 20-year absence, according to the PCB chief.
Although he refused to comment till later, the PCB chief stated that there is still doubt regarding India’s participation in the major event.
