A vehicle involved in 74 traffic violations was confiscated as authorities in Lahore intensified their crackdown on e-challan defaulters. The driver had run red lights 58 times and committed 16 lane violations. A fine of Rs 35,900 was imposed, and the car was seized.
Traffic enforcement teams were deployed on key roads such as Mall Road, Jail Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Ferozepur Road, and Wahdat Road. In addition, authorities have begun a crackdown on tampering with number plates to avoid e-challan penalties.
The Safe City project has been integrated with police service centres and the driving licence issuance management system to ensure effective enforcement.
This initiative enhances police operations and introduces a new approach to city management. It is the first phase of the Punjab-wide Police Integrated Command, Control, and Communication (PPIC3) Centre Programme.
The project aims to leverage modern technology to strengthen law enforcement, creating safer, more peaceful, and thriving cities while ensuring public safety.
Earlier this year, the newly-elected Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, directed officials to implement the Smart Safe City Project in every district of the province by the end of the year to improve security.
CM Maryam Nawaz issued this directive during her inaugural visit to the Punjab Safe City Authority headquarters in Lahore, accompanied by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MPA and Punjab Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Inspector General (IG) Dr Usman Anwar.
