After a three-year hiatus, the government has reinstated the SMS service for passport applications. This action aims to give citizens important information concerning passport preparation and delivery. Additionally, all passport offices nationwide have implemented a revised schedule for issuing applicants’ tokens.
The Directorate General Immigration & Passports (DGIP) is working to streamline and improve its services, and one way to do this is by offering an SMS service that can be accessed by dialing the number 9988. Candidates will now receive notifications on their registered mobile numbers at various stages of passport processing thanks to this method. To keep citizens informed of the status of their applications, these updates will include details on the receipt of applications, the state of their processing, and the distribution of passports.
To make the application process more convenient for applicants, the government has also established certain times for providing tokens. At every passport office in the country, tokens will be given out Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. The goal of this schedule is to shorten wait times and improve the overall effectiveness of the passport application procedure.
The resumption of the SMS service and the introduction of token delivery schedules are both positive milestones in the direction of updating and upgrading passport services, which will ultimately help persons looking for this necessary travel document.
