The Sindh government has unveiled an ambitious plan to offer unemployed youth electric vehicles (EVs) on easy instalments, aiming to provide sustainable livelihoods while promoting environmental conservation.
The initiative, designed to tackle the growing unemployment rate among young people, will supply eco-friendly EV taxis, enabling them to earn a living as drivers, according to a report by News.
Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has instructed the Secretary of Transport to collaborate with banks and financial institutions to explore suitable financial models for the program.
The plan focuses on creating convenient repayment schemes, allowing beneficiaries to eventually own the taxis. In a recent meeting with representatives from a Karachi-based EV taxi assembly company, Minister Memon was briefed on the environmental advantages of these vehicles.
He highlighted that offering EV taxis on instalments would not only generate employment opportunities but also align with the provincial government’s vision for a greener Sindh.
Memon stressed that the initiative would provide stable, long-term income for young people while supporting environmental sustainability through the introduction of eco-friendly transport options.
The project is set to launch soon, with the first batch of EV taxis aimed at delivering a reliable and affordable employment solution for unemployed youth in Sindh.
