Retaking the MDCAT exam is recommended

In addition to performing the exam again, the inquiry group charged with looking into the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) paper leak has advised taking legal action against those guilty. Following the conclusion of its investigation, the committee provided a report to the Sindh Health Department that contained the suggestion.

According to a spokeswoman, the Sindh Health Department has acknowledged receiving the investigation report.

The committee has requested that the MDCAT tests be administered afresh and has advised taking legal action against individuals who committed the unlawful act of leaking the paper. The provincial government has also received a summary of these suggestions.

The MDCAT examinations for admission to MBBS and BDS programs in medical schools and universities throughout the province were held on September 10, 2023, under the direction of Jinnah Sindh Medical University. In the test for 1,700 open merit seats, more than 40,000 applicants registered.

At the University of Karachi, 10,000 applicants sat the exam, and another center was opened on the Dow University Ojha campus to accommodate more than 5,000 candidates.

The Young Doctors’ Association subsequently claimed that the Sindh MDCAT exams merit system had been manipulated, which sparked news conferences and protests.
